Our Fishroom

Bred at the bench, not brokered.

Aquazon is a working fishroom. Every fish we list was raised here — spawned into peat at our bench, incubated on our shelves, hatched in our trays, and grown out on live foods in cool, soft water that matches the pools they come from.

We keep wild-type lines with collection codes — the mono tags like URU 25-16 you'll see on every listing. A collection code is a pedigree: it records the population a line descends from, so the fish in your tank stay true to the fish in that grassland pool. It's also why we never publish exact collection sites — locations on our maps are generalized to the basin, to protect wild populations.

We specialize in annual killifish — South American Rivulidae whose entire lives run on a one-year calendar and whose eggs sleep in dry earth between rains. They're the reason every species here gets a passport: fish this strange deserve to be understood, not just bought.

We're active in the American Killifish Association (AKA) community, and our stock travels to conventions and shows. If you're new to annuals, start with any passport — the breeding protocol section will make you want a bag of peat by step three.
